Right, I did what was suggested and it seemed fine. Last thing it said was:
Initialising "MediaWiki" namespace for language code en...
A database query syntax error has occurred.
The last attempted database query was:
"(SQL query hidden)"
from within function "Article::insertOn".
MySQL returned error "1062: Duplicate entry '8-Watchlistfor' for key 2 (
db686.oneandone.co.uk)"
Then I refreshed in another window and it said to complete, move
/config/LocalSettings.php to the parent directory. So I did. Now it seems to
work (fingers crossed) except my AdSense extension isn't shown in
Special:Version as it used to be - but it does work! That's not important
though, is it?
Thanks for the help!

Standard "MySQL puked an error" page - "...from within function

You need to run the maintenance/update.php script to update the
database schema. See
