[Mediawiki-l] <pre> and <nowiki> don't work in templates

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to use the <pre> tag inside a template, but it's not quite
working the way I expected it would.  If I put something like this in a
template:

  <pre>{{{1}}}</pre>

Then when I use that template on a page, the actual "{{{1}}}" is printed
instead of the template's first argument.  The same thing happens with
the <nowiki> tag.

Is there some other way you're meant to use these tags within templates?
