[Mediawiki-l] favicon.ico

I've looked at various posts about the favicon.ico and uploading and 
replacing the current one, adding $wgFavicon = "../favicon.ico"; to 
localsettings.php, but I am having ZERO luck in getting this to show up.

What path is MW looking in for this file for $wgFavicon = ?   OR 

Where should I upload tha file so MW will pick it up?

I've tried putting it into 

/public_html/wiki/favicon.ico 
/public_html/wiki/skins/common/images / 

It never shows up.

So any help on getting this resolved would be a great help.
