Must be a Dreamhost bug, since I used their one-click
installer.
I wouldn't blame them right away. ;-) I'm surprised, though,
Dreamhost offers one-click installs of MediaWiki. Most hosts
don't do that, I think. Perhaps to avoid issues like this. ;-)
I don't use 1.7.1, but the wiki_langlinks table mentioned in the error
message was *not* in the default installation package of MediaWiki 1.6.8.
If it's now required to run 1.7.1 properly, the issue could be solved
if you simply create an empty wiki_langlinks table in your SQL
via phpMyAdmin.
Would that account for the second problem as well?
They seem
like unrelated issues to me.
That's right, but I couldn't reproduce the second bug you were
referring to. I've just created a page called Test on your site,
and everything seems to behave normally, apart from the error
message relating to the wiki_langlinks table.
Here's your description of that second issue again:
