[Mediawiki-l] Integrating external search into Wiki search page

Hi,

I'm adminstrating a company internal Wiki that's used as part of a
knowledge base. Since this knowledge base includes a couple of other tools
like Bugzilla I was asked if the Wikipedia search can be extended to
search not only the mySQL database but also external sites (as said
Bugzilla or another Wiki instance).

Looking at the PHP sites it seems like this would be a custom
implementation of SearchEngine, combining results from the database with
external results.

Has somebody tried or thought about doing something like that? Or does
anybody have a better idea how to search multiple sources from the
mediawiki search page?
