A few months ago someone posted a note on how
MediaWiki logs you off
automatically when moving from one copy of MediaWiki to another (usually
another language) but within the same subdomain, say from
mpkb.net/en to
mpkb.net/es (whereas wikipedia uses
en.wikipedia.org/wiki and
es.wikipedia.org/wiki ) And someone posted in response that a "php cache"
differentiation was needed in LocalSettings.php for each copy.
If you've set MediaWiki to cache *data* (not a PHP opcode cache) in memcached,
turck mmcache, or eaccelerator (again, data caching is separate from compiled
code caching and must be explicitly turned on by you), then each wiki sharing
that cache needs to have a separate database name ($wgDBname).
Not sure how this would relate to logging anyone off, but it could break any
number of things if you tried to share items in the same database that way.
Perhaps this was an older version of MediaWiki which used the default PHP
session cookie name? If so, see
http://www.php.net/session for configuration
information on how to change this.
