1) Make sure you're editing [[MediaWiki:Loginprompt]], with no space.
2) If you set $wgUseDatabaseMessages = false; in your LocalSettings.php
at some point, set it back to true.
Do you have this problem with all messages or just that one? Have you
tried other messages?
