MediaWiki is not a good choice for storing/managing private data, IMO. You

That said, you can create a new wiki, disable public read access to it and 
disable new user registrations. Then you create some users and they will be 
able to see whatever the wiki contains. So, you can have two wikis in this 
way: One public and one private. They should be installed in different 
subdomains or hack the cookies variable if you want to work correctly, 
though.
