I'll mention http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Sysy/Joshua_Oreman%27s_icon_extension
on that bug report - it does look like it should work, though it would
be "nicer" to use specific link-related functions rather than parsing
as a text link and replacing. Also, can't you just use $wgParser
rather than $parser=new Parser?
