[Mediawiki-l] register_globals Progress

Hi,
as stated before, the latest mediawiki Version still requires 
"register_globals = on" as PHP setting..

I only have a short question: Is the avoidance of register_globals a 
current development issue and is there any timetable when mediawiki will 
be able to work without this option?
