How weird. I never had problems setting up MW. As a test run “take $HOME/public_html”. That’s the number one problem why something doesn’t work, ownership issues.

Is this with getting MediaWiki to work on Tools? If so, I also had a few problems before but I fixed it somehow. Let me see if I can dig up some information from when I was doing that.

I tried that once and gave up as well :-). So if someone
wants to document their successful way at
https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Tool_Labs, much ap-
preciated.
*But*: For any /development/ of MediaWiki or an extension
that needs a test installation viewable by the public (and
not just wants to use MediaWiki as a UI for a tool), I would
highly recommend MediaWiki-Vagrant in Labs
(https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:MediaWiki-Vagrant_in_Labs).
