Part of the problem is that we don't have a canonical source for 'all the damn web services'. https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T90561 should help fix that. In general I agree that users shouldn't have to bother with it, and work is in progress to ensure that that is true. Let's keep the conversation on the phab ticket?
