... or not.  It turns out that the problem only existed in my mind,
where I incorrectly mapped the server that holds S3 to that which holds
S6 -- where there is no surprise I couldn't find the S3 databases there
(and never noticed the S6 databases "happened" to be there instead).

False alarm.

And it goes to show it's important to not try to guess at what slice
holds which database.  :-)
