Well, as with every downtime, there are way more issues* that end up uncovered and have to be looked at, and yet largest email threads are about nicer error messages :-)

* buggy forcedeth behavior, european DNS server was hanging before maintenance started, loadbalancer likes to throw errors on first slave failure and doesn't go to others, no auto-fallback to read-only mode, too long connect timeouts, etc
