I don't think one article's suggestions can be prescriptive for every
non-profit out there.  WMF is an entity born of the Internet, and net
denizens are much more used to transparent discussion and arguing out in
the open than older-style foundations.  Additionally, since most of us
are volunteers, the whole "no leaks" thing is difficult to enforce
(whereas in a normal corporation, people do not reveal confidential
details for fear of being fired).  Best just to be honest with everyone.
 If WMF people are saying one thing to the public but then another thing
amongst themselves, it's inevitable that the discrepancy will get out
and only serve to cause even more problems.
