That's pretty much what Erik's doing at
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Planet_Wikimedia .

Note also on the talk page support for making it multilingual -
en.planet.wikimedia.org, etc. Which is as obviously a good idea in
retrospect as it was to make www.wikipedia.org a multilingual portal.
