In geographically very large countries getting people together for 
meetups can be an expensive exercise.  Beyond a two or three hour 
driving distance it becomes unfeasible to leave home on a Saturday 
morning to go to a meetup, and be back home that night.  The need for 
overnight accomodations becomes an added expense.
