Clearly identify what they are on the image page and they should not
be deleted. Let me know if you have any problems. I'd be glad to
undelete such images for you and smack whoever deleted them with a
large fish.

This happens, yes. I've also seen people 'enhance' images turning
them into outright fabrications.. we solve this by more understanding
and awareness in our community.. not by refusing to participate.

Uploading lower resolution images is always an option, but why do you
care? If someone wants to pay another person for a free images, that
is their decision. I think it's more useful to think about
"commercial use" in terms of someones ability to choose to pay someone
than in terms of someones ability to get paid. This is because, in a
free society, the price and terms of goods with zero marginal cost are
ultimately determined by the buyers not the sellers.
