Is having a highly prominent -- and still very active -- political
figure on the board such a good idea?  Something like that will
inevitably raise questions about Wikipedia's neutrality in political
issues; particularly if his presence on the board _does_ provide
significant benefits to the WMF, it will be assumed that said benefits
are a direct result of some quid pro quo political deal on our part.
