Something interesting in the UK is what Channel 4 are doing with their
post-transmission "on demand" service which allows you to watch a program
during the subsequent seven days.

They are removing the ads themselves (and no, there is no charge to watch.)

Commercial radio and television are very rare beasts; the sell what they
don't make and, rather like hotels, all they are selling is time. Once
that time has passed the product is either worthless (hotel) or of rapidly
decreasing value (after DVD sales have would down, etc) so the
availability of 'product' should become more likely as the calendar moves
on. Back catalogues should be releasable in some form, eventually ...
