Hello everyone,

Here is an update regarding the 2018-20 WMF Movement Strategy.

Thanks once again to those of you who participated in our discussions regarding the scoping documents of the various working groups. If there is an interest in having additional salon discussions, please let me know.

Best,

Esther Jackson

Subject: Release of draft recommendations and Wikimania Strategy Space

Hello Strategy Liaisons!

Last week, the draft recommendations [1] from the nine Working groups were released for your review. Working groups have worked incredibly hard over the last year in developing these ideas, and they are looking forward to feedback from your affiliates about how to further shape the content. What do you like and dislike? How would these recommendations impact your community? Where should we seek better alignment with the strategic direction? Please remember that as draft recommendations, the concepts shared are works in progress, and represent an evolution of ideas that will continue to change in the coming months.

For those of you hosting strategy salons between now and mid-September, these would be an excellent focus as you design your discussions. If you don’t have any salons coming up, please share these recommendations with your affiliate members in whatever channels are meaningful for you. We will also be hosting online discussions in the coming weeks with our Community Strategy Liaisons [2] in Arabic, French, German, Hindi, Mandarin, Spanish, and Portuguese and on Commons as well as English Wikipedia.

Finally, for those of you who will be joining us at Wikimania, please come join us at our Strategy Space [3]! We will be room “Karman” on 6th floor in Aula Magna. All throughout Wikimania, we will be running 90 minute sessions dedicated to each thematic area where you can meet with working group members in person and discuss the recommendations. Community Strategy Liaisons will also be at the Community Village to talk with you in your preferred language, discuss the strategy process, and share the recommendations.

We are at such an exciting stage of the movement strategy process, and your input is invaluable to the final shape the recommendations will take. Please reach out with any questions, and I look forward to sharing your thoughts with working groups and seeing many of you at Wikimania!

Best,

Kelsi
