Hi all, today is the deadline for applying for the Wikimedia Summit and thanks for all the support on the mailing list and in the recent meeting.
If there are no objections, I will be proud to represent WREN and submit the application on behalf of this group. Fortunately, I won't be the only one - Richard, Tochi, and others who are involved with WREN will be attending while representing other groups but can also advocate for WREN at the same time.
Rumor has it there may be an expanded opportunity for more than one person from an affiliate to participate in the form of remote/virtual attendance, so we will keep an eye on that.
For the record, here's the final version of the application and thanks to the folks who helped craft it and add to it.

I support you Andrew. I'll be applying as a representative of my User Group and wait to see if I'll get an opportunity.
We'll discuss more in the meeting today.

A few notes:
- Most of the conversation for this is happening in the Telegram group
for Movement Strategy. Organizers are indicating that it is going to be very strict and restricted to one representative per affiliate, and there is not even a guarantee that everyone will be able to go. It will depend on COVID vaccination status, visas, etc. In short, there appear to be no extra spots and unlike earlier Wikimedia Summits
- This is the first year WREN will be eligible to go to Wikimedia
Summit. I'd be interested in going to represent WREN for Movement Strategy and to help with the learning days function, depending on what their plans are. By all accounts, they don't have any firm plans yet and are trying to figure it out. In the past, the Summit has had some dedicated days for tutorials and training, and we could certainly do something around GLAM tools, not only for IRL attendees but remotely too. Either in person or remote, I'm happy to help. It's very confusing about how much they are going to allow outsiders to participate, as they are protective of small group dynamics. But for training and learning, they may be more inclusive.
- There are Questions & Answers sessions for the team at these times
(which are NOT on the wiki)

Yup - It is a bit strange, but I also do not know if it was like that pre-pandemic...
@Pharos would you be there via the Movement Charter drafting group?
Who are the other members that might be there anyway? It would be awesome if more people can join.
I am interested in attending.
Best - Z

Hi all,
As a bit of a surprise, the Wikimedia Summit 2022 announced they are going to have an in-real-life meeting September 9-11, 2022 (2022-09-09 to 09-11). They are only giving us two weeks to designate one person to apply to attend, which is very fast.
I wanted to start this thread to get folks thinking before our meeting tomorrow, to see who might be interested in going. We have rarely had any kind of Wikimedia movement gathering in September of any particular year, so the timing is a bit unusual as it tends to be busy with a number of start-of-school activities in certain places.
The focus will be on movement strategy among other things. I'm putting a link to the announcement here. Feel free to send any questions or discuss via email or come to the meeting tomorrow.
