Hello Zana,

Happy new year. I hope you are doing well?

Thanks for your questions. Last year we didn't produce any merchandise or gifts items. Essentially, it was designed but we didn't have any budgets for production.

This year, we hope to have it funded with the project grant, and North Macedonia and other local organisers will surely get some of these gifts.

Yes, the project manager's time would be paid for, this year. Last year it was coordinated and managed by me in a volunteer capacity and hundreds of hours of works were invested.

This year we hope to get compensation for the dedicated time that would be invested by the project manager (myself) who will be responsible for setting up and coordinating the international team, write grant request, maintain communication with relevant staff at WMF and local organisers of the campaign in collaboration with the community liaisons and communication manager, measure and collect data to be reported at the end of the campaign, report on the use of budget at the end of the campaign, write the evaluation report, general report and perform other relevant tasks (and technical functions).

My colleagues, Deborah Jacobs did a lot of works last year, communicating with local organisers and so much hours of works were invested in the planning stage. The volume of work is likely to increase this year and it might makes sense to compensate for this time as well.

Do you have a suggestion as a member of the committee? We can revise the proposal before the deadline.

Thanks for the heads up about the deadline. We will change it from "draft" to  "propose" before the deadline as suggested.

With best regards

Isaac

Hi Isaac,
I have several questions about the proposal:
About custom shirts, mugs, etc., in North Macedonia we did not get any last year. Will there be some items this year for us, as the number of items is 100 per item?

From the international team, only the project manager and admin and overhead (I don't know what is the meaning of this position) will be paid? (I am asking this question as project committee member, as well)

And please note that you must change the proposal status from "draft" to "proposed" by the submission deadline (which is tomorrow, 10 February) in order for your proposal to be reviewed in the current round.

Regards,
Zana

Hello everyone,

I hope you are all doing well and keeping safe amidst the COVID-19 pandemic that has negatively impacted the world.

I am writing to inform you that the international team will be applying for a project grant to WMF in the upcoming round, to support the WPWP Campaign 2021. Please see the grant proposal draft  here

While the 2020 edition of the campaign was largely successful, we were faced with some challenges that limit participation. However, this is unexpected for a new campaign.

This year, we want to strengthen the campaign across the world. Based on the identified problems (see the 2020 evaluation report draft), we want to adopt the following approaches:

Evaluate the framework: The international team will start a discussion with local organizers of the campaign to understand whether the framework under which the maiden edition of the campaign was organized is suitable for their community and impactful. We want to identify the problems peculiar to each community/country, and suggest what we think might work well or the best framework for them.

Collect and share best practices with organizing communities: In the maiden edition, some local organizers were unable to successfully implement the campaign. This year, we want to design best practices, create or lay the foundation for an infrastructure that contains documentation, templates and potentially tools that would help to support local organizers in organizing and implementing the campaign effectively.

Maintenance work: There is a need to intensify our maintenance work, which includes but not limited to monitoring participation and engaging local organizers in actively cleaning up any mess created by new editors. We will also be documenting this process to have a better understanding of how we can effectively track and address occasional disruption by new editors

Follow-up with new participants: The international team would need to design a strategy to follow up with people who edit Wikipedia for the first time via the campaign and devise a strategy to retain them.

The grant proposal would be finalized on the 10th of February 2021. Please share your feedback with us before the deadline to enable us make the necessary changes to our proposal.

With best regards
