Dear WISCOM Members,

I hope my email reaches you all in good health. As leaders on the continent, I wanted to inform you first about an announcement and an opportunity to collaborate on a brewing project at the WMF.

Following the support and endorsement of the African Union for last year's Wikindaba Conference, and their partnership with continental-wide projects such as Wikibrance and AWC, I am happy to share that the WMF and the AU have been working on a project dubbed the African Knowledge Initiative (AKI).

This project will focus on working with Wikimedia affiliates to grow content about the continent (shifting the storytelling into the hands of Africans) and help our communities unlock new contributors through AU's network and target groups. The project will specifically consist of aligning existing campaigns on the continent to select AU holidays and a training component for newbies.

Please keep your eyes peeled for this information,  and kindly share it with your communities when you come across it. I am also through this mail availing myself to you all for any contributions, concerns, or questions that you may have around this shaping project.

Will share more links to important information soon, looking forward to working more closely with WISCOM as the project forms.

Warm regards,
--
