Hi Bobby,

As you probably know, the application deadline for events in 2022 has already passed. Because we received many requests from communities to host 'post-covid' events, we are now exploring an option to open a 3rd funding round for 2022. But we still need to assess a few things on our end.
If you could please bear with us a few more days, I'll have more to share by early next week.

Thank you,

Chen

Dear Chen,

Our aim is to make sure that the conference takes place every year. Your kind response will be appreciated on the avenues we can explore to assist the Rwandans make this conference possible.  Seeing that we are pressed against time, let us know if you'd need to have a quick meeting to talk further around this.

Best,

Dear Chen,

Thank you for your prompt response.

For now we want to establish if they would need to have a fiscal sponsor or be a grantee.

And yes, we are planning to host the conference in the first week of November 2022. The conference will run for 3 days and dates we are looking at are 4 to 6 November 2022.

Best,

Hi Bobby,

Great hearing from you and congrats to Wikimedia Usergroup Rwanda!

I’m cc’ing our grants admin - Morgan/ Janice can you please do an eligibility review for Wikimedia user group Rwanda to see if there are any issues with their ability to receive funds?

Bobby - will they have a fiscal sponsor, or would they be the grantee?

Also - are you planning to host in 2022? Because the proposal deadline has already passed and we are still unsure if we’ll be able to run another funding round this year.

Dear Chen,

I trust this email finds you well and safe.

I'm reaching out to you on behalf of the WikiIndaba Steering Committee (WISCom) regarding the next WikiIndaba Conference host country for this year - 2022.

We have just completed the bid selection process to choose the next host for the conference and Wikimedia Usergroup Rwanda emerged as the winner. Our process involved sending out invitations to all African affiliates to bid to host the conference. This was followed by a selection criterion which looked at several factors including the capacity to host the conference, regional rotation, if there were elections this year in their country, status of finance and reporting as well as their reason why they wanted to host.

Despite all of these measures, we still want to find out from you if they are cleared or fit to receive funds from the Wikimedia Foundation?

I need to indicate that we've already informed them that they will be hosting the conference. However, we still can reverse that decision should you give us a response contrary to our findings, especially regarding their reporting standing and grants since the official public announcement has not been made and the other applicants have not been informed as yet.

Best regards,
Bobby Shabangu
