==Key points discussed==
  • Written notes of key issues discussed at the last meeting were reviewed and adopted. 
  • The meeting reviewed the bid submission form  and it was adopted after additional inputs were made. 
  • The affiliate database was reviewed and adopted after a few additional inputs. 
  • The invitation letter was reviewed and adopted. 
    • It was agreed that the invitation letter will be sent as an email to all affiliates except Uganda and Nigeria because they still fall under the 4 years rule.  
  • It was agreed that we need to have a policy to include the diaspora to enable them to host the conference. 
    • How many affiliates do we have in the diaspora
    • If an affiliates is in the U.S and they win the bid to host the conference, do we go to U.S 
    • This is a conversation to be consulted with the rest of the African communities
  • We need to put together a vetting form: must be ready by 20 April 2022
    • Bobby and Sami to work on this.
  • It was also agreed that we need to have the WikiIndaba meetings on a  bi-weekly basis, then once a month until the conference draws to nearer. 
  • Next Wiscom meeting will be held on: 23 April 2022

  • Announcement of next WikiIndaba conference host: Friday, 29 April 2022

One comment/question, considering that Wiki Indaba 2021 was online, can we still give a chance to the other countries in the East Africa region to be able to bid to host the conference? Other countries other than Uganda.

  • The list of affiliate countries eligible to bid have been consolidated by Georges and can be viewed HERE. 
    • Dumi to provide main contact persons per country. 
  • The principle of rotation - where the bid to host WikiIndaba is rotated across different parts of the African continent -  has to be preserved 
  • Joint bids are to be encouraged for countries with more than one affiliate
    •  this has to be indicated when sending the invitation letter for countries to bid. 
  • The invitation letter to bid has to be accompanied by a bid submission form, drafts can be found HERE and HERE 
    • Dumi and Zayneb to work on the bid submission form and submit it to Wiscom by Wednesday, 30 March.
  •  Invitation letter to bid to be written via google docs and shared to WISCOM by Wednesday, 30 March for their review and additional inputs. 
    • Bobby to write the letter.

  • Announcement of next WikiIndaba conference host: Friday, 29 April 2022
AOB: 
  • WISCOM needs to lead the regional coordination of the  2030 Movement Strategy in the African continent. 
  • We already operate as a hub. Therefore, we need to develop an African Strategy to align the Movement Strategy with issues beset by African Wikimedian such as resources, events, grants etc. 
Next meeting will take place on 3 April 2022 at the same time.
