Yes, you can do it all on your computer. Best if your computer has a camera.

Soooo, we can only do this on our phones?   (I think mine can; just wondering if one could use their computer?   I’m just a tad confused.

Dear folks,

I've got things set up for a Saturday afternoon Zoom meeting. There will also be a Sunday afternoon meeting, I think, for those who can't make it on Saturday or who find it less convenient to do Saturday instead of Sunday.

The Saturday afternoon meeting is set for 4 p.m. EST/1 p.m. PST (and, of course, 3 p.m. Winedale Standard Time).

Here are the details:

godwin@board.isoc.org is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

Topic: Shakespeare-at-Winedale meeting (Proof of Concept)

Time: Mar 28, 2020 04:00 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada)

I've deliberately chosen not to use passwords or serious access restrictions with this experiment. That means that anybody with this information can join our call. What that means, of course, is don't share this information with any pranksters. Right now I just want to make it as easy as possible for everyone to join the call.

I'm tentatively planning to host a Sunday Zoom conference at the same time (4 p.m. EST), but I haven't scheduled that yet given that we might want some flexibility to change some of the details.

David, did I leave anything out?

Hi Lovelies:

Mike Godwin and I tested out a Zoom meeting that he can host through an organization he's affiliated with.  He's going to set up time for tomorrow and Sunday to get together.  Look for his email later this evening with details.

In the meantime, you may want to download Zoom for your laptop, and there are also mobile device clients as well. You can find them here:

When you join the meeting on Saturday / Sunday, you'll be prompted to install the client on your computer, so don't stress it if you don't get it in advance.

So look for the details from Mike in a bit.  And see you in Zoomland -- it ain't no Illyria, but it's what we got.

Dear folks,

Carl Smith suggested to me privately (since, as he put it, I'm "the IT guy") that we explore doing a Winedale alumni/reunion teleconference via Zoom.us.  I've been doing a number of such teleconferences lately, and I think it might be a good way for us to supplement our email chatter--by holding virtual meetings or even by holding virtual "happy hours."  If there's interest, let me know, and I can see how easy it is to set one up. My instinct is to say it should be pretty easy now that built-in cameras are fairly standard equipment on most recent-vintage computers these days.

(Zoom also accommodates voice-telephony participants, and ultimately we would accommodate that, but it would be interesting to test the platform's free tier and see how well could manage to do a meeting on it.)

Current meetings in the free tier are limited to 40 minutes, but I've heard rumors that the time limit has been suspended in the current Time of Weirdness. At any rate, we can find out!

If you're interested in setting something like this up, working with me, let me know.

Mike
