Wouldn’t it be great if they had made an additional version of Third Man with Noel Coward and Cary Grant.  It would have been different but equally good if same director and writer and cinematographer.

Oh, but I do know, Michael, having been reminded of such important things by Robert Osborne as I always am after a movie on TCM. But Orson Welles on screen, well.... Did you know it was supposed to have been Noel Coward in his role and Cary Grant in Cotton’s?

Just saw the sprint. This young man appears to have been strictly talent, strictly business, strictly loyal. Sad that he flamed out.

Yes, but, Alice, we must remember Orson Welles (while he was fantastic as an actor in brief moments of screen time, much like Brando in Godfather) did not direct The Third Man, Carol Reed did. It was totally Carol Reed and Grahame Greene's creation. These guys wrote and  directed a seminal film and Welles continues to get credit for it.

Whew, Michael, watching this year’s Super Bowl all the way through—and liking it!—is as close to football as I unusually get these days. But this former junior high cheerleader is heading straight for YouTube to find that Vince thing. ( As for Welles, The Third Man was on TCM last night. I watched it, thrilled, again. Enough said.)

Just tried for Vince-sprinting and failed. Anybody got the url?

This is the way I look at it. That sprint during the USC game will be with us forever!  That sprint is to college football what Citizen Kane is to American filmmaking. So let's just say he's the Orson Welles of college football. Mr Welles also precipitously fell from grace. But we've always got Citizen Kane and we've always got that sprint.

Jerald, I am amazed and know not what to say about le bon Docteur's French. Aubrey's French is excellent, better than mine, I dare say.  In any case, there is a lot of talk about the (formerly?) fabulous Vince Young, whom I just Wikipedia-ed. His name is mud (or he's fallen in some shit), having apparently spent LOTS of money on high living, and then filing suit against his former manager; also, he's been cut by the Buffalo Bills... help me out here, Aub and Doc.  You know him personally? You have fond memories of him?

Carl's contribution is a funny version of a tres famous French poem by Valery:

It rains in my heart / Like it rains on the city

or
There is weeping in my heart
like the rain falling on the town.
Carl's version is "Like it rains in the end zone." HA!

Faithfully translated by

Mary
