Madge, Everyone
Thank you all for your wonderfully kind good wishes!
As I said, we two grizzled vets of 30 happily complicated years together find ourselves unexpectedly moved and delighted by this legal recognition-- even though we've always resisted (or at least questioned) our own conventional notions about marriage. So we're kind of elbowing each other in the ribs about feeling so giddy.
I'm a little shocked that UT doesn't have domestic partner benefits, Madge. I thought it would have beaten FSU to the punch. But it is harder for most public universities to initiate those kinds of policies because the state legislatures call the tune.
At FSU we are fortunate to have a very strong union and they are the ones that drove this measure. It really sucks to be second class citizens and it is shameful that you, Lisa and the boys are not legally considered family. Although you will be for tax purposes from now on.
I'm both glad and dismayed that Wendy Davis is in the running -- dismayed because she won't be part of the Texas legislature if she loses. And dismayed too by Clayton's percentages-- that 40 percent of women polled would not vote for her.
Glad because -- well, you know, someone with guts is in the running. I just hope that misogynistic oinker Kindy Friedman declines to play spoiler in this race.
I really love all guys and even though I have kept play in my life I still miss playing with you all.
Love,
Terry

Thrilled for you and Donna and FSU. UT still does not offer domestic partner benefits and I'll be looking for health insurance on the exchange soon because while our sons are covered under Lisa's insurance, I am not. Sometimes I think Texas will be the last state in the union to come around. But just today the governor's race just got a bit more interesting, so you never know....
