I'd like to add that even small contributions (a shout-out to all you teachers and social workers and artists!) make a big difference in building a scholarship for a kid from a low-income family who otherwise would never have this learning and growing opportunity.  

Last summer two very deserving students from low-income families in Gonzales, Texas, were able to attend Camp, thanks in large part to assistance from the Winedale family.  Doc works very hard to build two very diverse ensembles each summer, and all the students benefit from this diversity.

Do it today, right now, while you are thinking of it, pick up that phone, or rather pen....!

I think there is also a way to donate online -- I will check on this and send a followup email.

ALSO, I would like to strongly encourage all of you to support this program not just financially, but also in person by attending one or more of the performances.  You don't have to be a parent of a Camper -- or even a former student at Winedale -- to be stunned at the quality and beauty of the work and play.  Magical.  Ask Jerald Head and Joy Howard, for starters.  Very much worth a plane ticket, you New Yorkers and others far-flung.   You won't regret it.  And it can be a mini-reunion.

Some of the most amazing moments in the Winedale theatre barn have been engineered by young people (ages 11 to 16) participating in the Camp Shakespeare program.  People are still talking about the zombie version of the induction scene in The Taming of the Shrew.   And, as my daughter will attest, the friendships made among the campers over the course of two weeks are truly special.

 

Please consider sending a contribution to Camp Shakespeare for operational expenses and scholarships.  The goal this year is to raise from Winedale alums an additional $15,000, which will directly benefit the program and make a huge difference for children who can’t afford the camp tuition.  I am hoping that you will join me in participating in this Camp Shakespeare effort.
