Hi Stan and all – I have of course been thinking of Valerie today, although that’s not unusual, I think of her often.  She was also Rosaline in Love’s Labor’s Lost, Lady Montague and the apothecary in R&J, and was with me as we dimmed the lights over the dead lovers (to Barber’s Adagio for Strings).  From that vantage point we got to hear and see Doc’s marvelous Montague:

But I can give thee more:
For I will raise her statue in pure gold;
That while Verona by that name is known,
There shall no figure at such rate be set
As that of true and faithful Juliet.

But mostly she was a joyful friend, especially during my medical training.  I have a great photo of her and will try to find it.  We can raise a “statue” to her and the others.

Best,

Eric

So how shall we proceed with our gesture of remembrance/dedication?  I know we need to collect a list of the names and photos of those lost to us (at least in the flesh).  I will gather the names, but I am not to be trusted with putting together any kind of photo sort of thing.  All of my photo "albums" are in large boxes in the attic or flying about in various unorganized drawers.

So..... send me the names.  I am reminded of the shepherd and the clown in Winter's Tale, when they happen upon the remains of Antigonus and Perdita the babe, with death and new life on the same shore.  And I am reminded of the scene because Valerie, who played the clown, is gone.

Wow. I got tears in my eyes looking through these photos. Each class was - is - unique, but we all shared so many of the same experiences: the costumes, the beers, the beards, the sewing, the singing. The words. That barn. Doc.

Thank you for sending.

I agree with Stan, too, btw.

Jayne

Jerald, thanks.  Bruce and all, I am tearing up at my computer this rainy

morning after seeing Steven's photos and the beauty of the others. I first

met Steven, perched like Puck at the end of Eri Weinstein's water bed,

waking us up to go to Taco Village for breakfast.  I was thinking that there

are a number of exes (both supporters and students) no longer walking the

stage of the earth and perhaps we could gather their photos and dedicate a

little something to them at the reunion?  Gotta go teach.

xxoxo

thanx Jerald - some very powerful evoked memories... and I can shed yet

another tear for Steve Stepan who first told me of S @ W and set me on the

Dear Alums.

I had the wonderful pleasure of spending some time last week in a mini

reunion with my fellow classmates of the class of 75-76, Laura Smith, Rob

Lallier,Carol Martin, her hubby Sam, and Buddy Steele and his wife Maggie at

Laura's home. We had a special evening reminiscing about our time in 1975 at

Winedale, how it changed our lives, and despite protestations in previous

discussions, how we feel was the best class in 40 years, (but we can put

this aside for the moment.) Laura, (who is now a VP of UTMB, sorry Laura, I

am still impressed,) was our resident photographer as well as a delightful

comic actress and dear friend. She had access to a darkroom above the office

across the road from the barn and what is now the ruins of Lauderdale House.

She saved all of these images for 35 years and presented a disc of them for

all of us to enjoy. These photos are iconic of our time there. There are

certain pictures which are burned into my memory still 35 years later, and

we were all immediately transported back to such a wonderful time with

friends I hope to see in August. And my God, what a young and good-looking

group of students. What happened?

I am the worst with computers, so my partner Sergio helped me put them into

an album  which I hope we all can share, especially the classes of '75 and

'76, but also  for all those classes who followed as well. Not only do they

capture he essence of our time there, but they are also just  great photos I

think everyone can enjoy.

This is the link to the Mobile Me album. (There is a shot of a much later

single photo which I could not figure out how to delete. Please ignore. As I

said I am challenged.)

Thanks so much to Laura for preserving this for us all.

I hope you all can access it and enjoy.

Jerald
