Hi All,
After much delay, things are finally starting to line up.
I have to thank Jan for being patient and persistent, who kept asking as I pushed this along. I've recently re-confirmed WM-DE's generous offer to cover the cost of the Server.
Now, bring on the projects!! :)
I'm going to have a busy week upcoming, but I'll stick handle things forward as far as I can as quickly as I can. I'm settling up the finance portion with the hosting company. Once we have a few projects ready to go, I'll get the technical stuff there and start handing out accounts.
Ok, so if your interested, you might ask: What is a "project"?
It's anything that is computer-related (and hopefully learning related) which can accompany or accommodate wiki-based resources.
My original idea here was for users of something like a Wikiversity C language course. This allows people to write, compile, and try out programs without needing to have a full development environment locally.
Others have suggested things like Moodle and other CMS projects. What else? Only your mind is the limitations.
Now, if you have a great idea for a project, there is one catch -- our gracious hosts (WM-DE) have requested a monthly status report on hosted projects. So, we do need some feedback about what's going on and what's coming up in your project. The idea is that they want to know what's being done with their money -- and they've assured me that what they want isn't overly onerous.
Want to sign up right now? For the next week or two, feel free to send me a note. Once we've got things worked out, I'll post a WikiLink and we'll have some signup webpages in the next little while.
Thanks to all who have helped to make this possible,
Gerald
