I don't know about faster Ed, but I think we can certainly do something about making FEWER queries.... You are welcome to contribute too, here is the URL:

Of course in my heart of hearts I'm sure that Postgres will be dramatically more scalable too, but I will not say any such thing until we have working code and can actually benchmark this.
