The way I see it, most problems appearing after the conversion can be traced back
to server-side caching: cached versions of articles were still in ISO, but the head-part
of the source already said:
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;
This resulted in some trouble, as questionmarks or other placeholders bewildered readers.
A "action=purge" on every affected page solved these display errors, but this
took some time (~half a day). Something like a "global purge" would have been
Another problem: users with an umlaut in their username had to clear their cookies and
then login again.
And the third main problem: Links using for example "%FC" instead of
"ü" did not work any longer and had to be corrected manually/per bot.
Nevertheless, the conversion was a success - many thanks to all who helped :)
