We are happy to announce an update aimed at improving the experience of our technical community!
As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance usability, security, and reliability, we are moving forward with the following changes effective 1st October 2024, with a transition period of 2 months:
- Wikimedia Developer Accounts
We will be migrating developer accounts away from Wikitech to Wikimedia IDM https://idm.wikimedia.org/, our new user management system [0].
- Wikitech Accounts
Wikitech will become a single user login (SUL) wiki. In other words, you will be using your global account [1] to view and edit Wikitech.
Please follow the instructions posted on Wikitech, so to ensure your account will be migrated properly:

This transition will enable the delivery of streamlined access, and stronger data protection measures.

Hi, what are we going to do about cases like mine? [1]
I don't want to end up with having two SUL accounts.

Hey Zoran,
Please open a new Phab task summarising the current state regarding your accounts (i.e. which accounts exist and on which services), add the wikitech tag, and please mention it on Wikitech:Rename_requests as well.

Hi Effie, I didn't want to open a new Phabricator task, as there is an existing task that I've reopened.
Should I still mention it on Wikitech:Rename_requests, as this isn't exactly renaming like on SUL wikis (Wikipedia and so on, which are stewards from metawiki doing)?
