Google have come up with this "Notebook"[1] tool which looks very much like a wiki to me. It doesn't have all the features of your average wiki but what's interesting is the user interface, the way "AJAX" is used to allow inline WYSIWYG editing on the page. To edit a "note" you just double click on it.
I mention this here because I've often thought that editing should happen on the same page as viewing on wikis. That doesn't mean to say that such an interface would be suitable for all uses of MediaWiki, but for some of the projects I've used MediaWiki for it would be perfect.
Thoughts?

P.S. I didn't get into the Summer of Code, but thanks for everyone's help and support :)

Looks more like a Sparrow clone to me:

The main author of Sparrow, Bay-Wei Chang works for Google these days.
A big difference seems to be the focus on PIM (personal information management) to me. (As opposed to community collaboration.)

I think it'll still be quite a while until we have functionality like that in MW, but this is a project you may want to look at: http://openrecord.org/
They're developing a structured data wiki with an AJAXy UI. You can see the basic idea demonstrated here: http://openrecord.org/screencast.html
