I've made some updates to the labeled section transclusion extension, which is described at
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Labeled_Section_Transclusion
I'm hoping to have this installed on wikisource, so I'd appreciate any feedback on the implementation (i.e. code review) to help me towards that.
The main changes since it was last discussed on this list are:
1) #lst counts headings in the text that were skipped before the section, so edit links can be offset appropriately (similar to desired behavior desired in bug 6563)
2) By request, a new function, #lsth, allows translcuding sections by visual headings. Since this isn't crucial for the wikisource projects, it's implemented in a separate file, like an extension to the extension. I'd be interested to know whether this seems like something that would be useful for wikimedia projects, or should just be an optional extension for smaller wikis.
