That is completely and entirely up to you. A wiki is a
freeform,
free-range canvas...and if it's yours, it's yours to lay out how
you want.
Although that was my first impression unfortunately on various Talk
pages it was pointed out that I should follow a certain convention
(whose documentation was well not very easy to access, but this is a
different topic)
A sensible convention, however, at least for wikis
using MediaWiki, is
to use section headings to split up discussions into smaller threads.
One can even add a section to a talk page using the "+" link near the
edit button. Sections can be edited alone, meaning there's less markup
to look at, and it's easier to locate what it is you're responding to
in the text box.
I agree completely and IMHO one of the severe inconveniences with the
wikipedia talk pages is the lack of a sophisticated threading system
(see for example
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/LiquidThreads).
In my eyes a compromise would be to use subsections headings for
replys however that was strongly refused and even deleted on those
Talk pages.
Of course, there's nothing stopping you doing that
*and* using
----. Ah, decisions.
Ah, freedom :(
