Hi all,
Over the years, many affiliates and hubs have expressed interest in contributing to the technical side of Wikimedia projects. However, there is no simple, consistent way for affiliates to identify contributors' needs, decide what to prioritize, and coordinate this work with contributors.
To help address this, the Product and Technology Advisory Council https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Product_and_Technology_Advisory_Council (PTAC) has published a draft recommendation https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Product_and_Technology_Advisory_Council/May_2026_draft_PTAC_recommendation_for_feedbackon a model for affiliates interested in contributing to technical areas of the Wikimedia projects.
The core idea behind the recommendation is that affiliates can play a significant role in supporting contributors by strengthening the Wikimedia tool ecosystem by improving and maintaining existing tools, improving documentation for these tools, and enabling contributors to discover them.
*PTAC invites feedback on this recommendation until May 8*. Please share your comments, questions, or anything we may have missed on the talk page https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Product_and_Technology_Advisory_Council/May_2026_draft_PTAC_recommendation_for_feedback .
Regards, Sohom Datta *(On behalf of the Product and Technology Advisory Council)*
