Can we install Spam Assassin software on the wikien-l
mailing list? How
about other mailing lists?
Anthere and I have gotten tired of reading and deleting up to 30 daily
spam, spam, spam, ham, eggs and spam (hasn't got MUCH spam in it) every
day -- the joke gets old after a while.
My understanding was that this list was configured to automatically
reject messages that are not from subscribers. I find that this
change virtually eliminates all spam. People who send a message
without being subscribed will get a warning message explaining what
happened, and they can figure out what to do from there.
In my experience, SpamAssassin is only a partial solution, but I'm
probably a very extreme case. I get over 1,000 spams a day, and
SpamAssassin catches only about half of them. Most of the rest are
caught by my own homemade "automatic whitelisting" thingy, but I still
have to go through the "nowhitelist" folder by hand for now.
