Firstly, you should really ask questions like these on mediawiki-l rather than this development list. Secondly, don't confuse the software MediaWiki with the website Wikipedia.

Now, although you still have to choose what templates you want to export, you can grab them all at once (wrapped in XML) here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Export

Then you can import them on your own wiki (while logged in as a sysop) using the Special:Import page.

You'll find this considerably less tedious than copying and pasting. You might find that the broken templates are due to unsatisfied dependencies on other templates. You'll need to import those too.

I tried to go through manuals available on MediaWiki:Help and just copied/pasted some of them to my MediaWiki. This is a tedious process and still some of them are not displayed correctly.
