You should upgrade to 1.3.8 immediately.
I did that, as Evan pointed out to me that there's a better way now,
namely extensions, to implement what I wanted to.
I should warn you that it's somewhat poor
netiquette to send binary
attachments to a mailing list you aren't even subscribed to and demand
follow-ups.
Well, as I am subscribed to quite a number of mailing lists, and thereby
already have almost no time to work on my PhD, and didn't expect that
short attachments (I kept mine under 3kB) get stripped, I dared to send my
message to you.
As I think that the attachment really is worth to be sent to this list,
and also is much shorter than the regular flame-bait, I resend it to this
list, hoping that it will eventually find it's way into the extensions/
CVS repository.

follow-up discussion.
I am now subscribed (even if not for long, as I really have to tend my
PhD), so I very much hope to get this really small file included in the
official version of mediawiki. I am now aware that I probably annoyed some
people on this list; I am very sorry. Nevertheless, I am ready to respond
to sensible discussion, and do my very best to make this extension ready
for inclusion. I am also ready to discuss my behaviour and my mails -- off
list.
I hereby apologize to everyone I caused inconvenience by my mail, and hope
that you accept my apology.
Thank you for your time,
Dscho
