On Monday, I'm planning to go into the colocation facility sometime around noon my time (New York City time, Eastern time zone) to try to upgrade to the 'ricky special' kernel to get DMA working on the remainder of the older 1U machines.
To do this, I have to reboot the machines in turn, changing a bios setting, and then booting into the proper kernel.
As I understand it, on the apaches when I do this, it will be more or less seamless for website users.
But for other machines (zwinger, for example) it's more complex. What should I do? Can someone help me?

For zwinger, we could move the nfs stuff to will, as we have to do. So there wont have a downtime For squids, must to switch ip to another squid, time to reload the squid server For Suda, let it. As we dont need dma with scsi. And when ariel will replace Suda, we'll be able to reinstall it with a faster scsi array.

We're setting up for this now, hopefully will be done by the time Jimmy gets down there... :)
Poor little zwinger...

I'll plan on being awake by then :-)
Only the machines using SATA need to be touched. The SCSI based machine should not be touched -- that kernel doesn't have any support for anything beyond ICH5 SATA (ata_piix) built (in or as a module) If you want a kernel for those machines, tell we what SCSI support you need and I'll push a new kernel to ftp. (Note: I cannot build x86_64 kernels. Yet.)
I don't have access to any of the machines to actually change anything, but I can walk you through most things via IRC if no one else is around.
