Basically, yes.
I thought like any free/open project wikipedia is under some sort of version control, because otherwise things could be easily lost.
The changes are preserved as revisions, so one could see that you edited another message. However, when reading only the latest revision, things can be confusing. I think that it is frowned upon editing other people's messages (or personal pages), but this is not strictly enforced.
