I must confess my understanding of replication is crude, but it seems like a
lot of problems might be solved if WMF could establish some form of
intermediate replication server that took existing databases, stripped out
the private bits, and then offered the remainder for public replication.
I'd imagine it could be useful not just for the toolserver, but also to
academics, and others.
