I'm a recent addition to this list. I joined after the Apr 9 outage, thinking that as a longtime Internet engineer I'd be able to help on operational issues. Sadly, that doesn't seem to be a focus here.
Note that there are many lists related to MediaWiki and Wikimedia Foundation issues; it's possible that you're on the wrong one.
Say Jay, you're as acerbic as ever. Anything's possible. Any suggestions?
You're projecting, William; that was as even-handed as anything I ever say.
On looking at the mailing list descriptions at http://mail.wikimedia.org/ though, I'd have to say I'm wrong; this apparently *is* the ops list.
Unfortunately, most of the mailing list discussion on technical issues such as hardware and colocation seems to be on private-l. That's still a low volume list though, there's much more action on IRC. The best place to get involved with operational issues at present is the #wikimedia-tech channel on irc.freenode.net. Also have a look at https://wikitech.leuksman.com/
