I've noticed some vandalism on cswiki proxied through tor (http://tor.eff.org/) routers. Any ideas how to deal with it some other way than blocking addresses one-by-one?
The TOR software automatically maintains a database of all exits.
We could create an extension for automatic blocking based on this data... or just a bot that would perform blocks/unblocks. As far as I'm aware no one has done this. If someone does, please don't block non-exit nodes... they can't be used to reach Wikimedia via TOR and will block a lot of people unnecessarily (I'm making a point of mentioning this because Wikinews has done so in the past).
Until we have the software support to create blocks which only inhibit new accounts and anon edits, I don't see a huge incentive to create special support for TOR.
What's quite interesting is that after I announced I'd be working on replacing the blocking mechanism over this spring and summer, I got an email from someone involved with Tor et al. suggesting we collaborate. At the time, I hadn't finalised in my head exactly how everything was going to work. If I can dig up the email and get the sender's permission, I'll forward it to the list and/or interested parties and we could consider a bigger collaboration.
