But just to
clarify, the solution I intend to implement is the German
style, which
previous posts in this thread by you seemed to
imply you were okay
with, although I might have misread them.
Thanks for clarifying - I mistakenly thought the decision was still to put
it all the way to the left. :(
If a change must be made, the German style is the only choice I support.
At the moment, my only strong feeling is that any change made right now
should fix the current underlying syntax of the tags, so that
1) It is semantically valid (no link embedded in the header tag)
2) It is semantically meaningful (edit link should be between header and
text, rather than in an ambiguous location)
2) It renders well with no CSS (will probably automatically follow from the
above)
3) It gives us the flexibility to use CSS to create any of the suggested
layouts.
The update should contain default CSS that leaves MW acting the way it did
before, but with clear instructions somewhere (on MW.org?) about how to add
the CSS to acheive alternative results.
If that is done then it will give us the opportunity to experiment with
different edit button styles a lot more easily, in order to find a solution
that will fix all our problems.
However, I would caution against jumping in and making visible changes to
the wikis themselves as this is an ongoing discussion working towards a good
general solution, and it is not good PR to keep changing the page layout...
