Two things: * openings and closings of tags should not be the same ('' and ''), and they should not prefix-overlap (like '' and '''). You're just asking for troubles by introducing more such tags. * don't do it with regular expresions. Be a real man and write LALR syntax. It will be order of magnitude faster, much easier to change, and correct (current wikipedia parser fails under some more complex cases) that way.
