IE supports transparent PNGs just fine so long as they're binary transparency rather than alpha.
Interesting, Brion; I'm rewriting WikiTeX as a PHP extension, interfacing natively with ImageMagick's API. Yet under IE, I've had limited success with DVI-derived PNG's.
Of course, everything works beautifully in Firefox and company; and an alternative library may do the trick.
